Stargazing Lab (90 minutes)
Service Description
Our expert guides will take you on a journey through space and time, unraveling its mysteries and explaining why they matter. After this experience, you’ll see the universe in an entirely new light. Your adventure begins with naked-eye stargazing, as our guides use lasers to highlight constellations and celestial landmarks. It’s the perfect way to build your stargazing skills for when you’re exploring the night sky on your own. Next, you’ll join a hands-on session using our large visual telescopes. Our guides will teach you how to operate the equipment and locate celestial objects independently, making the experience both immersive and educational. Every night sky offers a unique spectacle. You’ll have the chance to observe lunar craters, Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, Saturn’s iconic rings, and deep-sky wonders like star clusters, nebulae, and distant galaxies. STEM AND FAMILY FRIENDLY Even though the sessions end late, these activities are family-friendly and ideal for kids. You will have a nice opportunity to learn more about the solar system and the Universe, and also to motivate interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in young minds. Some telescopes and additional resources will be available for use. Including telescopes that can be operated by kids. LOCATION Stargazing Labs are taking place from Duder Regional Park, Maraetai, just 40 minutes from the Auckland CBD. This beautiful location offers stunning views of the night sky and extremely low light pollution coming from the city. If the gate to the regional park is closed, our staff will come to open it so you can park your car inside. There are public toilets close to the observation area, next to the car park. Finding the observation area can be tricky if you are not familiar with Duder Regional Park. Please, come at least 15 minutes earlier and consider following the google maps directions: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HDrdfFMamzZTqzQa7
